La sezione equatoriale

Exhibition Description
Exhibition curated by Luca Scarabelli with Elisa Vladilo.

NOTES FOR  "LA SEZIONE EQUATORIALE"
Green paint and purple paint... almost monochrome... with a narrow horizon above...layers on top of layers.
These are my paintings over the last four or five years.
Sometimes it is possible to read all layers as if they were the description of the process. Other times the painting is finished with a last coat which covers the previous, excluding the horizon: assertions/erasures.
The last layer is the memory of all choices made and of all there was.

I always begin with red paint. I prepare the canvas with red paint and then gradually, one layer after the other I continue for about 30, 40 layers. Everyday I add new color. It is as if I am leaving a daily trace of my doing and being.
The final color is made out of all these superimpositions; from red to green to purple or from red to green and so on. A color is never the same of another: when I make a color I never use it in its pure form, but I always slightly mix it with another color.

The whole production of paintings becomes itself pictorial matter, color, magma which I re-invent, re-organize in a new creative act: the installation.
In this exhibition, for example, I show two vertical paintings of 50 cm x 60 cm arranged as a diptych. Two works produced and conceived separately, but associated in a dialogue between them. The two entities placed side by side contaminate eachother and the colors assume a new vibration as one painting finds a term of comparison in the “other”. In such manner the absolute of one becomes relative because of the presence of the other.
