Use and mis-use of the edge

Full title: Use and abuse of the word "edge" in relation to the role of abstraction and to my paintings.

"I do not agree with the opinion that the condition of the artist in general, and of abstract painting in particular, should be “on the margins”, if this means being in a privileged position. I don’t understand this expression in relation to an idea of the avant-garde. All artistic language can actually be equally fundamental and can potentially express things of equal importance. I don’t think that the role of the artist should be that of the prophet..."
