Introduction

REPLACING

COLLECTING, HOLDING, CATALOGING, ARCHIVING

“Dictionaries: boxes of colours.”
(From Joseph Joubert’s notebook, 1793)

Conserving the experience.

Containing, embracing, conserving, hiding, closing, alternating with moments of opening, expanding, extending, showing, displaying…

In the studio the substance-colour accumulates.

First articulate, then understand and then name.

The various parts that have formed are combined, organised and systemised in containers.
It is thus an archive of substance and of time.
