As was the exact same case with the entire definition of the system-work, the genesis of the archive also had an extremely long gestation that has never stopped. This macrostructure is in constant transformation, and this will probably be the case even when it is no longer I who controls it.
Everything began as a solitary procedure in my head in about 2005, before I plucked up the strength to start forming it in 2010.
Since then everything has happened through an empirical process, always relating to the substance in evolution and in constant dialogue with various collaborators and professionals.
CHRONOLOGY, ENCOUNTERS, COLLABORATIONS
Since 1997, even before the archive came into being, Francesco Allegretto has been photographing all my work, and he continues to do so to this day.
In 2011 there was the first brief encounter with the world of artists’ archives through the archivist Federico Sardella, who gave me some advice.
Between 2011 and 2016 Antonella Campisi, a student who came to visit me for her thesis, patiently and dedicatedly assisted me on the initial definition of the project and the first compilation of the files.
Between 2011 and 2014 the IT studio 42bit in Venice set up the first version of the archive and in 2015 Studio Pomo in Milan gave it its graphic imprint, connecting the archive to the website.
Since April 2016 the IT programmer Roberto Boldi has taken on everything, defining the system as you see it today, and he continues to adapt all my magmatic visions to the mathematical system.
Since 2016 Jo-Ann Titmarsh has translated all the texts from Italian into English.
In 2018 the ‘Portrait’ part began with the contribution of my friend, the artist Stefano Arienti. This section sees others interpreting the archive in some form.
From 2020 to 2024, artists Marta Magini and Melania Fusco working with me on conceiving some art works also helped me in cataloging some parts of the archive.
In 2020 I attended the course for artists’ archives held by the AitArt association in Milan where I met the Alessandra Donati.
In 2022-2023 Alessandra Donati as legal counsel and expert together with Stefano Pellegrino as Archive Financial Advisor helped me to institutionalise the archive.
The constitutive act of the committee was signed by me, my son Piero Pes and my husband Luca Pes. The originals committee – composed of the art historian and university lecturer Cristina Baldacci, the museum curator and art historian Elena Volpato, the archivist Barbara Garatti, Luca Pes, Piero Pes and me – became operative in September 2023 and on September 3, 2024, the “Maria Morganti Archive Committee” became an Entity registered with the national RUNTS.
In November 2022 the archivist Barbara Garatti became a part of this world. She holds with me the role of archive co-curator. Thus began a profound creative period in which we have been going back over the entire system together, readjusting and redefining everything, emphasising and amplifying its meaning.
For a few months between November 2024 and May 2025 the intern Elsa Scagliarini scanned all the documents and for a few days between December 2024 and March 2025 Federica Arcoraci reviewed some of the document files.
Since 2020 Marta Magini has been by my side and since 2025 helping me and Barbara Garatti, she has ensured that everything could be specified, refined and expanded.
