Introduction

RAMIFYING

A SECONDARY RIVULET IS FORMED FROM THE MAIN FLOW

“Cutting yourself off from the possibility of perennially reinvigorating yourself in things is like a living suicide.”
From Antonia Pozzi’s diary, 6 February 1935

If on the one hand, since around 2000, the painting process has mainly concentrated on the daily repetition of the same gesture – creating one colour a day and allowing it to sediment on the surfaces – on the other it has left open and generated other forms of thought through the act of painting.
Parallel to this action, other series of paintings have gone on to be formed, some of them short term and others lasting years, which have led to other signs and other images.
This chapter considers these groups of works which, when considered separately, are opened up to concepts and views which are different every time.
It is important to have the perception that the discussion remains open. There is always the possibility that parallel paths develop alongside the central nucleus or that even, who knows, at a certain point it is possible to change direction.
